Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Wilmington

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Ella Baynes scored on an assist from Riley McQuade with 1:23 left in regulation to lift Wilmington (2-0) to a 10-9 win over Shepherd University (1-2) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Friday. 

Freshman attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) scored three goals to pace the Rams. 

Sophomore Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added two goals, while junior midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) and junior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) each added a goal and a pair of assists.  Edwards added four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and a pair of draw controls. Stoner had a game-high seven ground balls, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers. 

Sophomore attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) and junior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each netted a goal and freshman attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) contributed a pair of assists.     

Ella Royer scored a game-high five goals for the Wildcats. Baynes added three. 

Shepherd had a 5-4 advantage at halftime. 

Shepherd scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter and took a 9-8 lead with 6:20 left after Poe scored on a feed from Stoner. Wilmington tied the game on an unassisted goal by Royer with 2:21 left to set the stage for the game-winner by Baynes. 

Senior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 10 saves for the Rams. Katie Vindigni posted 10 saves for the Wildcats. 

Shepherd had a 32-26 edge in shots, while Wilmington had a 20-19 advantage in shots on goal. Shepherd was 12-of-15 in clears while Wilmington was 13-of-21. The Wildcats had a 12-10 edge in draw controls and Shepherd had a  25-23 advantage in ground balls. 

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Lock Haven at 3 p.m. at Ram Stadium.
