Shepherd Women Knock Off Mansfield, Kaufman Gains First Career Win

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Freshman guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) scored a game and career-high 28 points to lead Shepherd University (1-21, 1-16 PSAC) to a 73-67 win over Mansfield (2-20, 1-17 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night. The win gave Shepherd head coach Julie Kaufman her first career victory. 

Grant was 10-of-13 from the floor with an 8-of-10 effort from three-point range. Grant's eight three pointers tied the school single game mark set by Kayla Tibbs against Glenville State on Dec. 1, 2018. She also grabbed six rebounds. 

Junior guard Kendal Haggerty (Frederick, Md./Urbana/CCBC) added career highs of 23 points and four assists. Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. 

Jasmine Hilton scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers. Alivia Paeglow added 12 points and seven boards.

Shepherd had a 34-29 lead at halftime.  

Shepherd held a single-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter. Mansfield rallied to within two points at 69-67 after a pair of free throws by Paeglow with 23 seconds left. The Rams closed the game on a 4-0 run to seal the victory.  

Shepherd shot 47.9 percent (23-48) from the floor with a 53.8 percent (14-16) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 61.9 percent (13-21) of their free throws. 

Mansfield shot 34.3 percent (23-67) from the floor with a 34.6 percent (9-26) from three-point range. The Mounties shot 66.7 percent (12-18) from the foul line.  

Mansfield had a 41-34 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 22.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 1 p.m.
