LEESBURG, Fla. -- Shepherd University (15-3) gained a pair of wins in softball action at The Spring Games on Thursday. The Rams earned a 10-8 win over Felician (8-9) in the early game and added a 10-1 triumph over Le Moyne (6-9) in five innings in the later contest. Shepherd extended its win streak to 14 games.
Freshman first baseman Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) belted a grand slam in the top of the seventh to lift the Rams to victory against Felician.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning behind an RBI-single by junior second baseman Caitlin Donnelly (Newark, Del./Padua Academy) and an RBI-double by junior outfielder Isabella Forte (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville).
Felician took a 3-2 lead in the third with a two-run homer by Alexis Velot keying the rally .
Senior designated player Cameron Davis (Ayden, N.C./South Central/UNC Pembroke) belted a solo blast in the fourth to tie the game.
Felician plated five runs in the fourth to take an 8-3 lead. Mia Martinez had a two-run single to spark the rally.
Shepherd got RBI-singles from Davis, Moore and Donnelly in the fifth to cut the lead to 8-6.
Graduate student third baseman Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville) singled, senior catcher Alex Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central) walked, and senior outfielder Hannah Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) reached on an error to load the bases and set the stage for Moore's heroics in the seventh.
Davis, Moore, and Donnelly each went 3-for-4 for the Rams.
Mia Martinez went 3-for-4 for the Golden Falcons.
Freshman pitcher Abby McBride (Northeast, Md./Rising Sun) (3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K, 0 BB) (4-1) gained the win in relief. Mikayla Brown (2.0 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (1-1) took the loss for Felician.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first against Le Moyne behind a two-run double by Davis.
The Rams added five runs in the second on RBI-singles from Beeler and Moore and a three-run triple by Forte to take a 7-0 lead.
McKenzie Bergdoll hit an RBI-double in the fourth for the Dolphins to cut the lead to 7-1.
The Rams took advantage of four hits and an error to added three runs in the fourth. Senior outfielder Kylie Condon (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) had an RBI-double during the rally.
Davis went 3-for-3 to lead the Rams.
Senior pitcher Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) (3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 0 BB) (5-2) earned the win for the Rams. Michaela Stockwell (2.2 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, 0 K, 1 BB) (0-1) took the loss for Le Moyne.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Kutztown for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
