Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Tops Frostburg State, Miller Gains 50th Win

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore midfielder Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) scored three goals and added two assists to lead Shepherd University (4-4) to a 12-10 win over Frostburg State (1-4) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Saturday. The win gave Shepherd head coach Jenny Miller her 50th career victory. 

Sophomore attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) added three goals, while junior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and junior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each tallied a pair of goals. Stoner also added eight ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers.

Junior midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) and freshman attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) each added a goal. Freshman attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) contributed two assists, while senior midfielder Molly McCook (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) added another.                                    

Dahlia Trippel had three goals and Julia Badolato added two to lead Frostburg State. 

Shepherd had an 8-6 lead at halftime. 

Trailing 10-7, Frostburg State scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 10-10. King scored on a feed from McCook with 6:52 left to give the Rams an 11-10 lead and Paredes added an unassisted goal with 1:30 left to seal the win. 

Senior goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded 10 saves for the Rams. Bennett (605) surpassed the 600-save mark for her career. Nicole Gray posted 10 saves for the Bobcats. 

Shepherd had a 31-28 advantage in shots with a 22-20 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 10-of-16 in clears, while Frostburg State was 19-of-24. The Bobcats had a 14-12 edge in draw controls, while the Rams had a 24-20 advantage in ground balls. 

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Shippensburg at 4 p.m.
