SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University (15-7, 0-4 PSAC East) dropped a pair of games to East Stroudsburg (17-7, 5-1 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Shepherd on Thursday. East Stroudsburg gained an 8-2 win in game one and added a 6-3 win in the nightcap.
East Stroudsburg took a 3-0 lead in the first inning in game one. Reilly Vicendese had a two-run single to key the rally.
Shepherd answered back in the bottom of the first on a two-run homer by senior outfielder Kylie Condon (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington).
Vicendese added a solo homer in the third to up the lead to 4-2.
The Warriors added four runs in the fifth. Abigail Weirich and Kaitlin Houser each had two-run singles to key the scoring.
Vicendese went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored for the Warriors.
Paige Zigmund (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 8 K, 1 BB) (8-2) gained the win for East Stroudsburg. Graduate student pitcher Sarah Lamper (Marshall, Va./Fauquier) (4.1 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 2 K, 3 BB) (1-1) took the loss.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first in the nightcap on an RBI-triple from senior catcher Alex Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central).
The Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the second on a two-run double by Katherine Donaghue.
East Stroudsburg added a run in the third on an RBI-single by Weirich.
Shepherd added a run in the third as junior outfielder Isabella Forte (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) singled and later scored on a bunt single by Condon.
Forte tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth on a solo blast to left center.
East Stroudsburg plated three runs in the sixth to gain the sweep. Lexi Wright hit a two-run double to key the rally.
Weirich went 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors.
Leigh Ann Jenkins (7.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 5 K, 0 BB) (5-1) gained the win for East Stroudsburg. Junior pitcher Hannah Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (2.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) (5-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader
