BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (14-9, 4-4 PSAC East) dropped a pair of games to Bloomsburg (9-10, 4-5 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Bloomsburg on Friday. The Huskies gained a 4-3 win in game one and held on for a 10-8 victory in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the second inning in game one as redshirt-sophomore outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC) singled and graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) followed with a walk. Daggers scored on a sacrifice fly by graduate student catcher Andrew Edwards (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) and Dewees later scored on a single off the bat of junior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport).
Bloomsburg cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second on an RBI-single by Wyatt Metzger.
Shepherd took a 3-1 advantage in the fourth as senior second baseman Ryan Haddaway (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) walked and stole second. He scored on a double by junior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook).
Dansby Keenan hit a two-run homer in the fourth for the Huskies to tie the game at 3-all.
Bloomsburg scored the game-winner in the fifth as Jonathan LaBarbera singled and moved to seconds on a ground out. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error.
Daggers went 3-for-3 to lead the Rams.
LaBarbera and Keenan each had 3-for-3 efforts for Bloomsburg.
Jared Marshman (7.0 IP. 7 H, 3 ER, 7 K, 3 BB) (3-1) gained the win. Redshirt-sophomore pitcher Trevor Sharp (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) (6.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 9 K, 0 BB) (3-1) took the loss for the Rams.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first in the nightcap behind a sacrifice fly by Dewees.
Bloomsburg scored six runs in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. Eli Riley hit a grand slam to key the rally.
The Huskies added a pair of runs in the fifth on RBI-singles from Brandon Ernst and Keenan.
Shepherd took advantage of three walks and a hit to score three runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 8-4. Graduate student catcher/ Zach Doss (Waldorf, Md./North Point/Maryland) and senior shortstop Cole Daugherty (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) each drove in a run when they drew a walk with the bases loaded.
The Huskies took a 10-4 lead in the sixth on RBI-singles by Brady Gibble and Carter Chasanov.
Shepherd completed the scoring in the eighth on an RBI-double by Daugherty and a three-run blast by Ross Mulhall.
Daggers and Carter each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Gibble went 3-for-5 and scored three runs for the Huskies
Nate Baranski (5.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (2-2) gained the win. Josh Marquard (1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K, 0 BB) earned the save. Redshirt-freshman pitcher Nate Mikulski (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) (2.2 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (1-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Mansfield for a 2 p.m. contest.
