SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (18-11, 6-6 PSAC East) split with Shippensburg (18-14, 6-6 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Shippensburg on Saturday. Shippensburg gained a 3-2 win in game one, while Shepherd posted a 10-5 victory in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 4-0 lead in the third inning in the nightcap with a three-run triple by sophomore outfielder Mike Guzzardo (Mullica Hill, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep/RCSJ Cumberland) keying the rally.
The Rams added two runs in the fifth. Graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) was hit-by-pitch and later scored on a wild pitch. The other run came as Guzzardo walked and scored on a single by graduate student catcher Andrew Edwards (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac).
Shippensburg scored three runs in the fifth as Austin Baal, Brock Piper, and Morgan Wyatt each drove in runs to cut the lead to 6-3.
The Rams added three runs in the eighth. Redshirt-sophomore outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC) and senior infielder Cole Daugherty (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) each had RB I-doubles to key the rally.
Junior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook) added a solo blast in the ninth for his second homer of the day to give the Rams a 10-3 advantage.
Shippensburg completed the scoring in the ninth with a two-run homer from Wyatt.
Edwards went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams.
Redshirt-sophomore pitcher Brenden Lewis (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) (1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB) (3-1) picked up the win. Junior pitcher Aaron Snyder (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg/Canisius) (3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5 K, 0 BB) picked up the save. J.T. Weaver (4-3) (1.1 IP, 1 H, 4 ER, 4 BB) took the loss.
Shippensburg took a 1-0 lead in the first in game one as Gio Calamia walked and later scored on a single by Justin Byler.
Shepherd took a 2-1 lead in the third as Carter belted a solo homer and Daggers added an RBI-double.
The Raiders rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and held on for the one-run win. Mike Heckman doubled and scored on a double by Byler. Byler later scored when Wyatt grounded out.
Heckman and Byler each had a pair of hits for the Raiders.
Jackson LoBianco (7.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 K, 0 BB) (3-0) earned the win for the Raiders. Redshirt-junior pitcher Jake Andrey (Cherry Hill, N.J./King's Christian) (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 K, 4 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to West Liberty for a 2 p.m. contest.
