SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Five members of the Shepherd University softball team have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team today. Graduate student third baseman Nicole Purtell (Centreville, Va./Centreville), senior first baseman Cameron Davis (Ayden, N.C./South Central/UNC Pembroke), senior outfielder Hannah Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim), senior pitcher Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick), and senior outfielder Kylie Condon (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) were honored.             

Purtell boasts a 3.93 undergraduate grade point average as a double major in business administration and sociology major and adds a 3.75 GPA as an MBA major. She led the Rams with a .451 batting average with 78 hits in 173 at-bats. Her 119 total bases, 78 hits, 56 runs, and 19 doubles this season set Shepherd single-season marks.  She added a team-best 47 runs batted in and six home runs. Her 11 stolen bases tied for the team lead. 

Davis boasts a 3.84 grade point average as a recreation and sport studies major. Davis batted .307 with 31 hits in 101 at-bats. She drove in 20 runs and scored 15. She added nine doubles and a pair of home runs. 

Beeler boasts a 3.84 grade point average as an education major. She batted .327 with 54 hits in 165 at-bats. Beeler drove in 25 runs and scored 35. She added nine doubles, three triples, and a home run. 

Laing boasts a 4.0 grade point average as an education major. She had an 11-9 mark and two saves with a 3.56 ERA. Her 11 wins were the most on the team. She fanned 66 and walked 38 in 109 innings. 

Condon boasts a 3.62 grade point average as a sociology major. She batted .352 with 57 hits in 162 at-bats. She drove in 38 runs and scored 39. She added 14 doubles, six triples, and a team-best seven home runs. She was 11-of-11 in stolen bases.             

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 6.
