Shepherd Volleyball Splits Pair at IUP Tournament

INDIANA, Pa. – Shepherd University (3-7) split a pair of matches at the 2023 Crimson Hawk Classic Presented by the Hilton Garden Inn in volleyball action on Friday. The Rams dropped a 3-1 (28-30, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22) decision to host Indiana (Pa.) (7-4) in an early match and rebounded with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-9, 25-19) win over D'Youville (2-8) in a later match. 

Junior middle blocker Joi Fairweather (Tamarac, Fla./Calvary Christian Academy) and freshman outside hitter Amya Davis (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) each recorded 12 kills against IUP. 

Sophomore middle hitter Renee Killough (Bloomery, W.Va./Hampshire) had a match-high six blocks, while senior setter Victoria Nicholes (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) posted a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs. Redshirt-junior libero Claire Ellis (Louisa, Va./Saint Catherine's School) recorded a team-high 13 digs. 

Stefania Anagnostou had 19 kills and 18 digs to lead the Crimson Hawks. Grace Mangapora and Nyla Birch each added 16 kills. 

Freshman outside hitter Jordan Pryor (Middletown, Md./Middletown) had 13 kills and Fairweather added 12 for the Rams in the win over D'Youville. 

Nicholes added another double-double with 32 assists and a match-high 20 digs. Ellis added 16 digs and a match-high five aces. 

Gisell Ramirez had eight kills and Emma Wlostowski added 10 digs to lead D'Youville. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday for final-day tournament action when they face Davis & Elkins at 9 a.m. and Frostburg State at 1 p.m.
