SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd (3-1, 0-1 PSAC East) dropped a 20-3 decision to Kutztown (2-2, 1-0 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Kutztown took a 3-0 lead when Dawson Evitts connected on a 26-yard field goal with 2:32 remaining in the second quarter.
Evitts added a 30-yarder with four seconds left in the half to give the Golden Bears a 6-0 advantage at the break.
Sophomore kicker James Bozek (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) connected on a 33-yard field goal with 8:48 left in the third quarter to open up the second half scoring and cut the lead to 6-3.
Judd Novak connected with Nick Lovenguth on a seven-yard scoring play with 1:37 left in the third quarter to give Kutztown a 13-3 lead.
Darryl Davis-McNeil scored on a seven-yard run with 4:10 left in the game to cap the scoring for Kutztown.
Shepherd totaled 189 yards of total offense while Kutztown totaled 295 yards. The Golden Bears took advantage of five Shepherd turnovers on the day, while committing three of their own. Kutztown had a 41:12 to 18:41 advantage in time of possession.
Junior quarterback Seth Morgan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon/VMI) completed 10-of-24 passes for 95 yards for the Rams. Novak connected on 16-of-27 for 146 yards for the Golden Bears.
Redshirt-junior running back Malakai Brown (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) had 16 carries for a game-high 87 yards for the Rams. Davis-McNeil had 19 carries for 79 yards for the Golden Bears.
Brown had four receptions for 15 yards and junior wide receiver Barry Hill (Highland Springs, Va./Varina/West Virginia State) added a pair of grabs for 34 yards to lead the Shepherd receivers. Kurtis Ravenel Jr. had six catches for 39 yards for Kutztown.
Redshirt-sophomore defensive back Enelio Pena (Moorestown, N.J./Woodrow Wilson/Camden CC) led the Rams with a game-high 14 tackles (10 solos). Senior linebacker Dewayne Grantham (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Lackawanna) added eight stops (six solos). Brandon Hile led the Golden Bears with six tackles (four solos) and a forced fumble.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Shippensburg at noon for Hall of Fame Weekend.
