SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (1-2) dropped a 4-2 decision to Frostburg State (2-1) in non-conference men's soccer action at Shepherd on Wednesday evening.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead when junior forward Andrew West (Annandale,Va./Carlisle {Pa.}) scored on a pass from freshman midfielder Dylan Shepherd (Fallston, Md./Fallston) at the 2:49 mark.
Alex Retzos scored on a feed from Laki Psallidas at the 28:08 mark to give the Bobcats a tie at the break.
Frostburg State scored three unanswered goals in the second half to take a 4-1 lead.
Hugh Portillo, Alex Grasso, and Retzos scored second-half tallies for the Bobcats.
Graduate student midfielder Ryan Fisher (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane/Marshall) scored on a penalty kick at the 85:24 mark to complete the scoring for the Rams.
Senior Christian Blazes (Hagerstown, Md./Heritage Academy/Hagerstown CC) (60:03, 3 GA, 2 saves) and sophomore goalkeeper Carter Cave (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (29:571 GA, 3 saves) combined for five saves for the Rams. Joel Assai recorded seven saves for the Bobcats.
Frostburg State had a 19-14 edge in shots while shots on goal were even at nine apiece. Frostburg State had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Pitt-Johnstown for a 3:30 p.m. match.
