West Chester Holds Off Shepherd Men; McClain-Corley Reaches 1,000-Point Mark

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Jordan Kellier scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures as West Chester (9-5, 6-2 PSAC) recorded an 82-72 win over Shepherd (5-8, 2-6 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at West Chester on Wednesday night. Senior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) (1,005) scored 18 points for the Rams to go over 1,000 points for his career. 

Senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) scored a game-high 19 points to pace the Rams. He connected on 7-of-17 field goals with a 2-of-9 effort from three-point range. He was 3-for-3 from the foul line. 

McClain-Corley reached the 1,000-point mark when he connected on a pair of free throws with 10:03 left in the contest. He tied freshman guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) with a team-high nine rebounds. Banks added 13 points and a team-high six assists.

Elijah Allen added 14 points and Joshua Walker added 13 for the Golden Rams. Anthony Purnell Jr. and Robert Smith each tossed in 12 points. 

The Golden Rams had a 44-30 lead at the break. 

Shepherd trailed by 20 points in the second half and used a 23-9 run to cut the lead to six at 70-64 after a three-point play by Jordan with 5:31 left. West Chester closed the game on a 12-8 run to seal the win. 

Shepherd connected on 40.3 percent (27-67) of its field goals with a 20.6 percent (7-34) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 64.7 percent (11-17) of their free throws.

West Chester shot 51.7 percent (30-58) from the floor with a 53.3 percent (8-15) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Rams hit 56 percent (14-25) from the foul line. 

Shepherd had a 41-36 edge on the boards. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed 10. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Mansfield at 3 p.m.
