Shepherd Women Downed by Mansfield

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Jasmine Hilton scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Mansfield (7-7, 4-5 PSAC) to an 81-63 win over Shepherd University (3-11, 1-8 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday afternoon. 

Freshman forward Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) led the Rams with a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds to post her second double-double of the season. 

Freshman guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) added 11 points, a career-high eight assists, and four rebounds. Sophomore guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) had 11 points, three assists, and two rebounds.       

Graduate student forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) added eight points and eight boards. Junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) had eight points and five boards. Deaira Hairston (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) contributed seven points and five rebounds. 

Kristen Fulford added 12 points and five assists for the Mountaineers. Emile had 11 points, while Danae Ellzy had 10. 

Mansfield had a 40-26 lead at halftime. 

The Rams rallied by as many as 17 points in the third quarter but rallied to get to within five points at 51-46 at the end of the quarter. The Mountaineers outscored Shepherd, 30-17, in the final stanza to grab the victory. 

Shepherd shot 37.1 percent (23-62) from the floor with a 26.1 percent (6-23) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 91.7 percent (11-12) of their free throws. 

Mansfield shot 36.8 percent (25-68) from the floor with a 40-7 percent (11-27) effort from three-point range. The Mountaineers shot 80 percent (20-25) from the foul line.

Mansfield had a 46-40 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 17. 

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Millersville for a 5:30 p.m. game.
