Shepherd Women Edged by Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Makiah Shaw scored a game-high 19 points to lead Millersville (7-8, 5-4 PSAC) to a 57-51 win over Shepherd University (3-12, 1-9 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Millersville on Wednesday night. 

Sophomore guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) scored 17 points to pace the Rams. She hit on 6-of-15 field goals with a 5-of-12 effort from three-point range            

Freshman forward Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) added 10 points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) added 10 points and four assists. 

Graduate student forward Cara Minor (Hundred, W.Va./North Marion) led the Rams on the boards with a career-high 14 rebounds. Junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) hauled down eight rebounds.

Jabria Ingram added 12 points and five assists for the Marauders. La'shyra Williams had eight points and 11 rebounds. 

Shepherd had a 26-25 advantage at the break. 

The game featured four ties and 16 lead changes. Shepherd took its last lead of the game at 51-50 on a jumper by Wehner with 3:03 left in the contest. Millersville closed the game on a 7-0 run to seal the win. 

Shepherd shot 29.3 percent (17-58) from the floor with a 30.8 percent (8-26) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 64.3 percent (9-14) of their free throws. 

Millersville shot 37.5 percent (21-56) from the floor with a 22.2 percent (2-9) effort from three-point range. The Marauders shot 61.9 percent (13-21) from the foul line. 

Shepherd had a 45-35 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 23. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 1 p.m. contest.
