LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Justice Shoats scored a game-high 20 points to lead Lock Haven (10-5, 8-2 PSAC) to an 84-72 win over Shepherd (6-10, 3-8 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Lock Haven on Saturday.
Freshman guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scored a team-high 19 points to lead four Shepherd starters in double figures. He connected on 6-of-12 field goals with a 1-of-3 performance from three-point range. He was 6-of-8 from the line.
Junior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while freshman guard Michael Cooper (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) tossed in 10 points.
Bryson Scott had 14 points and Collin Jones scored 12 and grabbed 10 boards for the Bald Eagles.
Lock Haven had a 40-37 lead at the break.
The Bald Eagles used a 9-2 run midway through the second half to build a 13-point advantage to take control of the contest.
Shepherd connected on 46.6 percent (27-59) of its field goals with a 26.1 percent (6-23) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 57.1 percent (57.1) of their free throws.
Lock Haven shot 34.7 percent (29-53) from the floor with a 56.5 percent (13-23) effort from beyond the arc. The Bald Eagles hit 68.4 percent (13-19) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 36-27 rebounding edge. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 14.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 3 p.m.
