SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) scored 15 points and handed out six assists to lead Shepherd (6-10, 3-8 PSAC) to a 67-58 win over Bloomsburg (4-14, 2-10 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Jordan connected on 6-of-9 field goals with a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range. He was 1-of-1 from the line.
Junior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had 14 points, senior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) added 13 points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Michael Cooper (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) tossed in 10 points. Freshman guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) contributed nine points, five boards, and three assists.
Matt Bengel and Desmond Freeman each had 14 points to pace the Huskies.
Shepherd had a 40-29 lead at halftime behind 13 first-half points from Jordan.
Shepherd led by as many as 17 points in the second half but saw its lead dwindle to six points at 64-58 after Freeman drained a three-pointer with 1:00 left in regulation. The Rams hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to seal the win.
Shepherd connected on 46.4 percent (26-56) of its field goals with a 32 percent (8-25) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 77.8 percent (7-9) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the floor with a 36.4 percent (8-22) effort from beyond the arc. The Huskies hit 57.1 percent (4-7) from the foul line.
Bloomsburg had a 34-31 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed nine.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Shippensburg. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
