Shepherd Women Knock Off Bloomsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Sophomore guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) scored a game-high 25 points to lead Shepherd University (4-13, 2-10 PSAC) to a 78-68 win over Bloomsburg (4-14, 2-10 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday afternoon.

Grant connected on 9-of-15 field goal attempts with a 5-of-9 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-2 from the foul line. She also tied Bloomsburg's Katelin Starr with a game-high three steals.

Junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) added a season-high 18 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Freshman forward Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) added 14 points and four boards.

Starr led the Huskies with 21 points. Lauren Kirsch added 15 points, while Ella Kale contributed four points, seven assists, and nine rebounds.

Shepherd had a 38-35 lead at halftime as Grant (10) and Bolles (9) combined for 19 first-half points.

The game featured two ties and 14 lead changes. The Rams took the lead for good at 61-60 on a layup by Grant with 7:45 left in the fourth quarter. Shepherd proceeded on an 8-2 run to build a seven-point advantage and would lead by five points or more for the remainder of the contest.

Shepherd shot 52.2 percent (24-46) from the floor with a 57.1 percent (8-14) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 88 percent (22-25) of their free throws.

Bloomsburg shot 44.4 percent (24-54) from the floor with a 30.4 percent (7-23) effort from three-point range. The Huskies shot 92.9 percent (13-14) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 30-26 edge in the boards. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Shippensburg for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
