Shepherd Women Down Shippensburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Junior guard Jordan Carr (Charles Town, W.Va./Jefferson) scored a game-high 13 points to lead Shepherd University (5-13, 3-10 PSAC) to a 78-68 win over Shippensburg (3-17,  2-12 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.

Carr connected on 4-of-10 field goals with a 5-of-9 effort from the foul line. She added a season-high seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Her 13 points tied a career-high effort.

Freshman guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) added nine points, four boards, and a game-high three assists. Junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) added eight points and nine boards,  while freshman forward Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds.

Taja Colbert had 11 points and eight rebounds to pace the Raiders. Alexis Buie added eight points and six boards.

Shippensburg had a 27-25 lead at halftime.

Shepherd took the lead for good at 39-38 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) with 7:55 left in the fourth quarter. The Rams outscored the Raiders, 17-to-5 in the final quarter to pull away for the win.

Shepherd shot 32.1 percent (17-53) from the floor with a 42.9 percent (9-21) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 53.3 percent (8-15) of their free throws.

Shippensburg shot 20.4 percent (11-54) from the floor with a 9.1 percent (1-11) effort from three-point range. The Raiders shot 77.3 percent (17-22) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 46-39 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 19 turnovers and committed 20.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Kutztown for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
