KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) scored a game-high 18 points to lead Shepherd (8-10, 5-8 PSAC) to a 70-50 win over Kutztown (2-18, 1-13 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Kutztown on Wednesday night.
Poffenberger hit on 9-of-14 field goals. He added four boards and a steal.
Senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) added 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Senior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) and freshman guard Michael Cooper (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) each contributed nine points. McClain-Corley tied Kutztown's Jaiden McGhee with a game-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) tied Kutztown's Amir Cunningham each posted a game-high six assists.
Brent Ricketts Jr. led the Golden Bears with 15 points. McGhee added 11 points, while Juju Pagan tossed in 10.
Shepherd had a 36-23 advantage at the half behind 10 first-half points from Poffenberger.
The Rams maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
Shepherd connected on 49.2 percent (29-59) of its field goals with a 30 percent (6-20) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 66.7 percent (6-9) of their free throws.
Kutztown shot 33.3 percent (16-48) from the floor with a 30.4 percent (7-23) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Bears hit 78.6 percent (11-14) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 38-25 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed nine.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 3 p.m. contest.
