WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Cooper Jordan passed for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another to lead West Chester (2-4, 2-1 PSAC East) to a 35-14 win over Shepherd (4-2, 2-1 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at West Chester on Saturday.
West Chester took a 7-0 lead when Jordan teamed with Anthony Leonardi on a 62-yard scoring pass with 2:50 left in the first quarter.
The Golden Rams increased their lead to 14-0 when Jordan fired a 34-yard touchdown pass to D'Shaun Seals with 47 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Shepherd cut the lead to 14-7 when redshirt sophomore running back
Jordan Barnett (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge/FUMA/Southern Utah) scored on a three-yard run with 12:51 left in the second quarter. Freshman kicker
Keith Baker (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) added the extra point.
West Chester took a 21-7 lead into the break as Jordan scored on a one-yard run with 3:44 left in the half.
Dayshawn Jacobs scored on a one-yard run with 1:45 left in the third quarter to up the lead to 28-7.
Redshirt senior running back
Malakai Brown (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) scored on a six-yard run with 1:26 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 28-14.
The score was set up by a 77-yard kickoff return by junior wide receiver/return specialist
Thad Standfield (Bowie, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School/Edinboro).
Leonardi scored on a one-yard run with 9:59 left in the game to cap the win for the Golden Rams.
Shepherd had 386 yards of total offense while West Chester totaled 370 yards.
Jordan completed 8-of-14 passes for 164 yards. Redshirt junior quarterback
Lek Powell (Carlisle, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) completed 24-of-39 passes for 219 yards for Shepherd.
Jordan also had 17 carries for 124 yards for the Golden Rams. Brown had 11 carries for 70 yards and Barnett added eight carries for 56 yards to lead the Rams.
Dorner led the Rams with six receptions for 73 yards. Brown added seven grabs for 52 yards. Seals had four catches for 61 yards to lead the Golden Rams.
Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman
Brett Kwoka (Wilmington, Del./Ss. Neumann Goretti (Pa.)/Delaware) led the Rams with 10 tackles (four solos). Senior linebacker
Harold O'Neal (Baltimore, Md./Harrisburg (Pa.)) added eight stops (one solo). Shane Mosley and Johnny Pergine each recorded 10 tackles for West Chester.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Millersville at noon for Homecoming.
