#14 Shepherd Women’s Soccer Tops Slippery Rock to Advance to PSAC Tournament Finals

ERIE, Pa.  Fourteenth-ranked Shepherd University (15-1-4) rallied past Slippery Rock (9-6-4) for a 5-4 win in PSAC Women's Soccer Tournament semifinal action at Gannon on Friday night. The game was the highest scoring game in PSAC women's soccer postseason history. The Rams advance to face Kutztown, a 2-1 winner over Gannon in an earlier contest, on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gannon. Shepherd posted its eighth straight win.
 
Slippery Rock took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Sydney Patrick at the 5:51 mark.
 
The Rams answered back minutes later on an unassisted tally by senior midfielder Sarah Peternel (Wolfeboro, NH/Virtual Learning Academy Charter School/University of New Hampshire).
 
Morgan Sarver scored on a pass from Patrick at the 21:41 mark to give Slippery Rock a 2-1 advantage.
 
Sophomore midfielder Annabelle Wunderlich (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) found the back of the net on a feed from at the 36:44 mark to tie the game at 2-2.
 
Slippery Rock retook the lead on an unassisted goal by Olivia Yoder at the 40:47 mark.
 
Shepherd responded with three unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead.
 
Wunderlich scored on a penalty kick at the 58:05 mark and added another unassisted goal at the 65:23 mark. Junior midfielder Josie Beezel (Woodsboro, Md./Linganore) netted another goal on a pass from Peternel at the 66:19 mark.
 
Libby Zacharyasz scored on a pass from Faith Diffenbacher at the 85:09 mark to cut the lead to 5-4, but the Rams held on for the win.
 
Shepherd had a 19-16 advantage in shots and an 11-9 edge in shots on goal. Slippery Rock had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Wilt (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) recorded five saves for the Rams. Leah Allman had six saves for Slippery Rock.
