SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard
Annie Hunt (Ravenswood, W.Va./Ravenswood/Wheeling) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Shepherd University (2-2) to an 86-42 win over Cheyney in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday.
Hunt connected on 8-of-14 shots with a 5-of-7 effort from three-point range. She was 1-of-1 from the line.
Junior forward
Leah Snisky (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area/Georgian Court) added nine points, while sophomore guard
Samiyah Nasir (Gwynn Oak, Md./Howard/College of Saint Rose) tossed in eight points and recorded a game-high four steals. Freshman forward
Makenna Painter (Woodstock, Va./Central) added seven points and seven rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Jenna Liska (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty/Frostburg State) added seven points and five boards, while freshman guard
Corin Edsell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) had seven points and four rebounds. Senior guard
Jordan Carr (Charles Town, W.Va./Jefferson) contributed six points and a game-high six assists.
Mikayah Mallet had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Wolves. Taniyah Finney added 12 points.
Shepherd connected on 50 percent (34-68) of its field goals with 40.9 percent effort (9-22) from three-point range. The Rams drained 69.2 percent (9-13) of their free throws.
Cheyney had a 26.5 percent (13-49) field goal percentage with a 27.3 percent (3-11) effort from beyond the arc. The Wolves hit 39.4 percent (13-33) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 47-36 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 25 turnovers and committed 15.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Seton Hill for a 3 p.m. game.
