BOWIE, Md. – Destiny Ryles scored 18 points and added five steals to lead Bowie State (3-2) to a 74-58 win over Shepherd University (2-4) in women's basketball action at Bowie State on Wednesday.
Sophomore guard
Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) led the Rams with 18 points. Wehner connected on 7-of-13 shots with a 4-of-8 effort from three-point range. She added seven rebounds and a game-high six assists.
Sophomore forward
Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard
Annie Hunt (Ravenswood, W.Va./Ravenswood/Wheeling) added eight points.
Mayah Gardner tossed in 15 points, while Beulah Odiong added 10 points and eight boards for the Bulldogs.
Bowie State outscored Shepherd, 23-9, in the fourth quarter to pull away for the victory.
Shepherd connected on 32.8 percent (21-64) of its field goals with 35 percent effort (7-20) from three-point range. The Rams drained 64.3 percent (9-14) of their free throws.
Bowie State had a 41.4 percent (24-58) field goal percentage with a 9.1 percent (1-11) effort from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs hit 73.5 percent (25-34) from the foul line.
Bowie State had a 36-35 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed 21.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Wilmington (Del.) at 4 p.m.
