SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman guard
Corin Edsell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) scored a career-high 17 points to lead Shepherd (3-5) to a 92-54 win over Wilmington (Del.) University (0-7) in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Sunday.
Edsell connected on 5-of-10 three-pointers and was 2-of-2 from the foul line. She added six rebounds, three assists, and steals.
Sophomore guard
Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) added 12 points, three assists, and four steals, while sophomore guard
Samiyah Nasir (Gwynn Oak, Md./Howard/College of Saint Rose) tossed in 11 points.
Sophomore forward
Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) added eight points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard
Trinity Turner (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) and freshman forward
Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) each recorded a game-high six steals.
Jasmine McDuffie led the Wildcats with 10 points. Mya Nisbet added nine points and TyKeisha Hill contributed five points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Shepherd ended the first quarter with a 30-6 lead and took a 49-19 lead into halftime.
Shepherd connected on 47.8 percent (32-67) of its field goals with 48 percent effort (12-25) from three-point range. The Rams drained 50 percent (16-32) of their free throws.
Wilmington had a 35.1 percent (20-57) field goal percentage with a 43.8 percent (7-16) effort from beyond the arc. The Wildcats hit 50 percent (7-14) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 43-39 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 38 turnovers and committed 20.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Indiana (Pa.) at 3 p.m.
