SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Fourteenth-ranked Shepherd University (12-1-4, 12-1-2 PSAC East) recorded a 2-0 win over Shippensburg (5-8-4, 5-6-4 PSAC East) in PSAC East women's soccer action on Senior Day at Shepherd on Wednesday. Shepherd 's 12 wins on the year break the single-season mark of 11 set by the 2005 team.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead into the break when sophomore midfielder
Taylor Schuck (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) scored on a header off a free kick from sophomore midfielder
Annabelle Wunderlich (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) at the 41:20 mark.
Senior midfielder
Sarah Peternel (Wolfeboro, NH/Virtual Learning Academy Charter School/University of New Hampshire) scored off a pass from junior midfielder
Josie Beezel (Woodsboro, Md./Linganore) at the 78:56 mark to seal the victory.
Shepherd had an 18-3 edge in shots and a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Rams had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Hannah Wilt (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) recorded three saves to post a shutout for the Rams. Wilt's shutout was her ninth of the season, tying the school single-season mark. Kirstin Brown had 11 saves for the Raiders.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Chester for a 1 p.m. contest.
