SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Nyshae Weaver scored a game-high 26 points to lead 18th-ranked Indiana (Pa.) (6-0, 3-0 PSAC) to a 71-68 win over Shepherd (3-6, 0-3 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Friday afternoon.
Weaver connected on 12-of-13 field goals with a 2-of-2 effort from the foul line. She also grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) paced the Rams with 20 points, five assists, and four rebounds. She connected on 8-of-14 field goals with a 3-of-7 effort from three-point range. She was 1-of-2 from the foul line.
Sophomore forward
Jenna Liska (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty/Frostburg State) added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard
Samiyah Nasir (Gwynn Oak, Md./Howard/College of Saint Rose) tossed in 13 points.
Grace Centrulla added 12 points for the Crimson Hawks, while Shamia Strayhorn and Ellie Wilkerson each tossed in 11.
The game featured 10 lead changes and three ties. Shepherd had a 68-66 lead after Wehner hit a three-pointer with 2:01 left in regulation. IUP closed the game on a 5-0 run to capture the win.
Shepherd connected on 39.7 percent (25-63) of its field goals with 43.5 percent effort (10-23) from three-point range. The Rams drained 61.5 percent (8-13) of their free throws.
Indiana (Pa.) had a 48.3 percent (28-58) field goal percentage with an 18.8 percent (3-16) effort from beyond the arc. The Crimson Hawks hit 85.7 percent (12-14) from the foul line.
IUP had a 43-28 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Clarion for a 1 p.m. contest.
