SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard
Samiyah Nasir (Gwynn Oak, Md./Howard/College of Saint Rose) scored a team-high 13 points to lead Shepherd (4-8, 1-5 PSAC) to a 64-57 win over Pitt-Johnstown (1-11, 0-6 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at Shepherd on Saturday.
Nasir connected on 3-of-7 field goals with a 6-of-8 effort from the charity stripe. She added three steals and a pair of assists.
Sophomore guard
Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) added 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, and one steal, while sophomore forward
Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had nine points and nine rebounds.
Sophomore
Jenna Liska (So. Eldersburg, Md./Liberty/Frostburg State) added 10 points, eight rebounds, and three assists for the Rams. Sophomore guard
Cassidy Rhodes (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) contributed eight points, four rebounds, and an assist.
Gianna Gallucci recorded a game-high 15 points for the Mountain Cats. Belle Bosch posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards. Sophia Ott added 12 points.
The Rams had a one-point lead at 57-56 after a jumper by Bosch with 3:10 left. The Rams closed the game on a 7-1 run to seal the win.
Shepherd connected on 35.4 percent (23-65) of its field goals with 20.7 percent effort (6-29) from three-point range. The Rams drained 75 percent (12-17) of their free throws.
Pitt-Johnstown had a 40.4 percent (23-57) field goal percentage with a 45.5 percent (5-11) effort from beyond the arc. The Mountain Cats hit 60 percent (6-10) from the foul line.
The Mountain Cats had a 40-38 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced 21 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Jan. 3 when they host West Chester for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
