SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Michelle Kozicki scored 21 points to lead West Chester (5-8, 2-5 PSAC) to a 68-60 win over Shepherd (4-9, 1-6 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Friday.
Kozicki, who went over 1,000 points for her career, connected on 7-of-17 field goals with a 7-of-11 effort from the charity stripe. She added 12 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Sophomore guard
Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) recorded a game-high 24 points to lead the Rams. She connected on 9-of-22 shots with a 4-of-10 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-3 from the foul line. Wehner added a team-best seven rebounds. Her 24-point effort was also a career-high performance.
Sophomore guard
Cassidy Rhodes (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) contributed 14 points, while sophomore guard
Samiyah Nasir (Gwynn Oak, Md./Howard/College of Saint Rose) added four points, six rebounds, and a game-high five assists. Junior
Annie Hunt (Ravenswood, W.Va./Ravenswood Wheeling) tossed in seven points and sophomore forward
Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had five rebounds and four assists.
Anna McTamney added 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Golden Rams. Rachel Conrad added 11 points.
Shepherd had a 30.4 percent (21-69) field goal percentage with a 34.3 percent (12-35) effort from beyond the arc. The Rams hit 46.2 percent (6-13) from the foul line.
West Chester connected on 43.8 percent (21-48) of its field goals with 28.6 percent effort (4-14) from three-point range. The Golden Rams hit 68.8 percent (22-32) of their free throws.
The Golden Rams had a 45-36 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 23 turnovers and committed 15.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
