Shepherd Baseball Tops USC Beaufort

BLUFFTON, S.C. – Shepherd University (4-5) used an 11-hit attack en route to an 8-6 win over USC Beaufort (4-8) in baseball action at USC Beaufort on Saturday evening.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) reached on a walk and later scored on a ground out off the bat of senior first baseman Jared Hall (Eastlake, Ohio/Willoughby South).

The Sand Sharks plated five runs in the bottom of the frame on three hits and one error.

USC Beaufort added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Brian Meyer to take a 6-1 lead.

Shepherd scored six runs in the seventh to take a 7-6 lead. Junior infielder Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick CC) had a two-run single, while senior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook), junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland), and Hall each added run-scoring singles.

The Rams added a run in the eighth as senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Freshman catcher Collin Snyder (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend), Borges, Jamison, and Greaney each had a pair of hits for the Rams.  

Carson Phillips had three hits to lead the Sand Sharks.

Redshirt-junior pitcher Brenden Lewis (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) (4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) (2-0) picked up the win. Senior pitcher Aaron Snyder (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg/Canisius) (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 K, 1 BB) picked up the save. Brayton Wilmes (2.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 2 ER, 4 K, 0 BB) (0-2) took the loss.

The two teams conclude a three-game set with a game on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
