BLUFFTON, S.C. – Shepherd University (5-5) recorded a 5-3 win over USC Beaufort (4-9) to complete a three-game sweep of the Sand Sharks in baseball action at USC Beaufort on Sunday.
USC Beaufort took a 2-0 lead in the second inning with an RBI-single by Terry Dean keying the rally.
The Sand Sharks added a run in the third on a run-scoring single by Josh Patterson.
Shepherd plated a pair of runs in the fourth on RBI-singles from junior infielder Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick CC) and junior catcher Brayden Meskill (Bordentown, N.J./Notre Dame/Mercer County CC) to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Rams scored two runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. Graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and Greaney hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Dewees later scored on a wild pitch and Greaney scored on a ground out by freshman catcher Collin Snyder (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend).
Shepherd added an insurance run in the seventh as junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland) reached on a single and later scored on a ground out by Dewees.
Senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport), Meskill, Greaney, and Borges each two hits to lead the Rams.
Redshirt freshman starter Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI/James Madison) (5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R 1 ER, 3 K, 1 BB) (1-1) gained the win. Redshirt-junior pitcher Eli Lam (Elkton, Va./Spotswood/Patrick Henry CC) (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1K, 0BB) (1) picked up the save. Brandon Martin (6.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 K, 1 BB) (1-2) took the loss for USC Beaufort.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, March 6 when they host West Liberty for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
