SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) scored seven goals to lead Shepherd University (1-1) to a 16-9 victory over Barton College (2-2) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Sunday.
King scored four goals in the first half to give the Rams an 11-5 lead at the break.
Junior midfielder Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added three goals and an assist, while sophomore attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) had two goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) also netted a pair of goals.
Senior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added a goal and eight draw controls, while sophomore attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) contributed a goal and two assists. Senior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) tallied three assists.
Tamia Marshall scored three goals to pace the Bulldogs. Mackenzie Camp added a pair.
Sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded five saves for the Rams. Savannah Graves had 10 saves for the Bulldogs.
Shepherd had a 31-20 edge in shots with a 26-14 advantage in shots on goal. Shepherd was 11-of-5 in clears, while Barton was 15-of-18. Ground balls were even at 22-all. Shepherd forced 22 turnovers and committed 23. The Rams had an 18-9 edge in draw controls.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, March 6 when they travel to Frostburg State for a 5 p.m. contest.
