FROSTBURG, Md. – Kerri Hayes scored five goals to lead Frostburg State (3-1) to a 12-9 win over Shepherd University (1-2) in women's lacrosse action at Frostburg State on Wednesday.
Junior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) paced the Rams with four goals. Senior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) added a pair of goals and a game-high three assists. Senior midfielder Kaiya Edwards (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) tallied a pair of goals, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
Senior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added an assist and six draw controls, while sophomore attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) netted a goal. Freshman midfielder Aubrey Harrison (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior) contributed two assists and five draw controls.
The game was tied at 4-4 at the half.
Clinging to an 8-7 lead, the Bobcats scored three consecutive goals to open the fourth quarter to take command of the contest.
Emily Lamoreaux and Neila Haney each added a pair of goals for the Bobcats. Haney also recorded six draw controls.
Sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded six saves for the Rams. Nicole Gray had nine saves for the Bobcats.
Frostburg State had a 33-24 advantage in shots with a 19-18 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 16-of-18 in clears, while Frostburg State was 22-of-23. Ground balls were even at 18-18. Shepherd forced 20 turnovers and committed 18. The Rams had a 15-10 advantage in draw controls.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Indiana (Pa.) for a 2 p.m. contest.
