Shepherd Baseball Splits with UVa-Wise

WISE, Va. – Shepherd University split with UVa-Wise in baseball doubleheader action at Wise as both teams opened the 2024 season. The Rams recorded a 7-2 win in game one and UVa-Wise rallied for an 8-7 win in the nightcap.
 
Senior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook) led the Rams in game one with a 3-for-4 effort. He scored a pair of runs and belted a solo blast in the third inning.
 
Redshirt-junior outfielder Trey Sine (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) added a 2-for-3 effort with a run scored.

The Rams stole five bases in the game with senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) swiping three.
 
Justin Reed went 1-for-4 with an RBI-double for the Highland Cavaliers.
 
Senior pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James/Maryland) (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K, 0 BB) (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Wise starter Justin Snider (2.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
 
Wise rallied from a 6-4 deficit in the nightcap with four runs in the fifth and held on for an 8-7 win.
 
Redshirt infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC) went 1-for-3 with a grand slam in the third to key a six-run third inning for the Rams. Junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland) added a 2-for-3 outing. Jamison smacked a solo homer in the seventh.
 
Reed and Cole Harness each had a pair of hits for Wise. Reed had a two-run homer and Harness had a solo blast.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Nate Mikulski (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) (1.2 IP, 2 H, 4 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (0-1) took the loss. David Kelliher (1.0 IP, 0H, 0 R, 0 K, 1 BB) notched the win with Hunter Anderson (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 0 BB) gaining the save.
 
The two teams return to action on Sunday at Wise for doubleheader action at noon.
