Shepherd Women Upset East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Freshman guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) scored the game-winning shot in the final seconds to lift Shepherd  University (6-14, 4-11 PSAC) to a 67-65 win over East Stroudsburg (7-13, 5-10 PSAC East) in  PSAC women's basketball action at East Stroudsburg on Saturday.

Freshman forward Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had 16 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Rams. Bowman hit on 7-of-12 field goals and was 2-of-2 from the foul line. She added two blocked shots and a steal.

Sophomore guard Peyton Grant (Plymouth, Maine/Dexter Regional) added 13 points, junior guard/forward Sydney Bolles (Elkview, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) tossed in 12, while Wehner had 11. Junior guard Jordan Carr (Charles Town, W.Va./Jefferson) was also in double figures with 10 points.

Izzy Vogel scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Warriors. Emily Chieml added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

East Stroudsburg had a 31-30 lead at halftime.

The game featured 18 ties and 18 lead changes. 

Shepherd took a 65-63 advantage after Carr hit 1-of-2 free throws with 24 seconds left in regulation. Vogel hit a jumper for the Warriors with 14 seconds remaining to tie the game and set the stage for Wehner's game-winner.

Shepherd shot 48.2 percent (27-56) from the floor with a 38.5 percent (5-13) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 80 percent (8-10) of their free throws.

East Stroudsburg shot 36.7 percent (22-60) from the floor with a 38.5 percent (5-13) effort from three-point range. The Warriors shot 80 percent (16-20) from the foul line.

East Stroudsburg had a 39-30 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host West Chester at 5:30 p.m.
