SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Robert Smith scored a game-high 31 points to lead West Chester (14-8, 12-4 PSAC) to an 86-82 overtime win over Shepherd (9-12, 6-10 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Senior guard Phillip Jordan (Rockville, Md./St. Albans) scored a season-high 24 points to pace the Rams. He hit on 6-of-17 field goals with a 3-of-10 effort from three-point range. He drained 9-of-10 free throws.
Senior guard Daniel McClain-Corley (Clinton, Md./Massanutten Military Academy) added 17 points, while freshman guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) tossed in 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Junior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had 14 points and a game-high four assists.
Elijah Allen had 22 points and seven boards, while Jordan Kellier posted a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Golden Rams.
West Chester had a 39-38 advantage at halftime
The game featured nine ties and nine lead changes, Shepherd forced the extra session when Jordan hit a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left in regulation. West Chester outscored Shepherd, 16-to-12, in overtime to grab the win.
Shepherd connected on 41 percent (25-61) of its field goals with a 31 percent (9-29) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 92 percent (23-25) of their free throws.
West Chester shot 44.4 percent (28-63) from the floor with a 60 percent (9-15) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Rams hit 84 percent (21-25) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 46-28 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Mansfield for a 3 p.m. contest.
