WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Shepherd University (6-6) dropped a pair of games in softball action at The Spring Games on Tuesday. The Rams dropped a 3-0 decision to Saint Michael's (4-3) in an early game and came up short on a 4-3 decision with Lewis (11-4) in the later contest.
Saint Michael's plated three runs in the third inning and held on for a 3-0 win. The Purple Knights got an RBI-double from Davidson, and RBI-singles by Angelica Johns and Jenna Devens.
CJ Davidson (7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 K, 1 BB) (2-0) gained the win. Senior pitcher Katie Laing (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) (4.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 K, 1 BB) (0-2) took the loss.
The Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the first in the later game on a run-scoring single by Meghan Bontrager.
Anna Frafjord hit a two-run single in the fifth to give Lewis a 3-0 lead.
Bontrager led off the sixth with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Payton Wuske to give the Flyers a 4-0 lead.
Shepherd rallied in the seventh on a three-run homer by sophomore catcher Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington).
Bontrager went 2-for-3 to lead the Flyers.
Delaney Garden (7.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 9 K, 2 BB) (5-2) gained the win. Sophomore pitcher Abby McBride (North East, Md./Rising Sun) (5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they face Southern Connecticut State at 2:15 p.m. and Northwood at 4:15 p.m. at The Spring Games.
