Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Tops IUP

INDIANA, Pa. – Junior midfielder Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) had four goals and two assists to lead Shepherd University (2-2) to a 14-12 win over Indiana (Pa.) (1-2) in women's lacrosse action at IUP on Tuesday.

Junior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) added three goals and a pair of assists. Sophomore attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) contributed two goals and an assist, while senior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) netted a pair of goals.

Senior attacker Sam Lassahn (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Prep), sophomore attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century), and freshman midfielder Aubrey Harrison (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior) each added a goal.

Senior defender/midfielder Maya Rosenbaum (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) topped the team with four caused turnovers and a game-high five ground balls. Senior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added a team-high four draw controls and three ground balls.

Maggie Boyle led the Crimson Hawks with three goals. Sarah Reustle, Chantal Jimenez, and Brenna Whiteside each added a pair of scores.

Shepherd opened the game on a 7-1 run and held an 8-6 lead at halftime behind four first-half goals by Paredes.

IUP scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter with Boyle getting back-to-back scores and Whiteside adding another to cut the lead to 13-12 with 9:23 left in regulation. Forney scored an unassisted goal with 7:16 remaining to cap the win for the Rams.

Sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded nine saves for the Rams. Mia Courtalis (3 GA, 0 saves, 4:50) and Maddy Schramm (11 GA, 9 saves, 55:10) had nine saves for the Crimson Hawks.

IUP had a 29-28 advantage in shots. Shepherd was 20-of-23 in clears, while Indiana (Pa.) was 14-of-17. Shepherd had a 23-19 edge in ground balls. Shepherd forced 23 turnovers and committed 17. The Crimson Hawks had a 20-10 advantage in draw controls.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, March 20 when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 2 p.m. contest.
