Shepherd Baseball Falls Twice to #21 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (5-7, 0-1 PSAC East) dropped a doubleheader to #21 East Stroudsburg (12-3, 5-0 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at East Stroudsburg on Friday. The Rams dropped a 6-4 decision in game one and came up short on a 6-0 outcome in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the third inning in game one behind an RBI-double by freshman catcher Collin Snyder (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend), an RBI-single by senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport), and a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland).

East Stroudsburg answered back with four runs in the fourth. A two-run single by Mike Kelly keyed the rally.

The Warriors added a pair of runs in the fifth to stretch their lead to 6-3. Shanley Wall had an RBI-single and Jeremy Piatkiewicz reached on a hit-by-pitch and later scored on a groundout.

Shepherd added a run in the seventh as Snyder doubled and scored on a double by Jamison.

Junior catcher Brayden Meskill (Bordentown, N.J./Notre Dame/Mercer County CC), Jamison, and Snyder each had a pair of hits for the Rams.

Brent Francisco (6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 9 K, 1 BB) (4-0) got the win. Caden Parker (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 0BB) (4) earned the save. Redshirt-junior pitcher Brenden Lewis (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) (2-1) took the loss.

East Stroudsburg took a 3-0 lead in the fourth in the nightcap as Cameron Hubbard and Parker Frey each had RBI-singles and Jack Rothenhausler added an RBI double.

The Warriors added three more runs in the fifth as Mike Kelly had a run-scoring single and Shanley Wall and Rothenhausler added sacrifice flies.

Nick McAuliffe (5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 7 K, 3 BB) (4-1) gained the win for the Warriors. Senior pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James/Maryland) (3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 0 BB) (2-2) took the loss.

The two teams return to action on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
