SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (5-11, 0-4 PSAC East) dropped a doubleheader to #21 East Stroudsburg (15-3, 8-0 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. The Rams dropped a 7-4 decision in game one and came up short on a 10-8 outcome in the nightcap.
East Stroudsburg took a 1-0 lead in the third inning in game one on an RBI-double by Shanley Wall.
The Warriors added five runs in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. Mike Kelly had a two-run double to key the rally.
Shepherd cut the deficit to two runs in the fifth as freshman catcher Collin Snyder (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) belted a three-run homer.
Wall scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Rothenhausler in the seventh to up the lead to 7-3.
Shepherd got a run in the bottom of the seventh as Snyder walked and scored on a single by junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland).
Wall went 3-for-4 to lead the Warriors.
Ryan Dewees (4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 6 K 0 BB) (3-0) got the win. Caden Parker (0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB) gained the save. Redshirt-freshman Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI/James Madison) (3.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 1 K, 3 BB) (1-2) took the loss.
The nightcap was a slugfest as both teams combined for 26 hits and four home runs.
Graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion), junior infielder Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick CC), redshirt infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC), and junior catcher Brayden Meskill (Bordentown, N.J./Notre Dame/Mercer County CC) each had a pair of hits to lead a 12-hit attack for the Rams. Senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and Borges each added solo home runs.
Parker Frey went 3-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs for the Warriors. Mike Kelly (three-run) and Jeremy Piatkiewicz (two-run) hit round-trippers.
East Stroudsburg built a 10-6 lead and Shepherd's rally in the seventh fell short in a 10-8 win for the Warriors
Peyton Brannock (2.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (1-0) gained the win for the Warriors. Parker (0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 2 BB) picked up his second win of the day. Redshirt-sophomore Nate Mikulski (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom)(1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (0-2) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Mansfield for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
