Shepherd Baseball Sweeps Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Shepherd University (8-12, 3-5 PSAC East) swept a doubleheader with Mansfield (7-14, 3-9 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Mansfield on Tuesday. Shepherd recorded a 3-2 win in game one and added a 5-1 victory in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second inning in game one on a solo homer by freshman catcher Collin Snyder (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend).

The Rams added a run in the third as redshirt-junior infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC) reached on a single, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a sacrifice fly by senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport).

Mansfield tied the game in on run-scoring singles by Ryan Sekulski and Zachary Shetzer.

Miles scored the game-winner in the seventh. He reached on a hit-by-pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice by junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland). Jamison laced a single up the middle to plate Miles.

Graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) led the Rams with a pair of hits.

Senior pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James/Maryland) (2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 K, 0 BB) (3-2) picked up the win in relief.  Ryan King (6.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 5 K, 4 BB) (2-4) took the loss.

Mansfield took a 1-0 lead in the third as Tyler Swineford led off with a single and later scored when Sekluski reached on a fielder's choice.

Shepherd tied the game in the fourth as Snyder singled and scored on a double by Dewees.

The Rams scored four runs in the sixth to earn the win. A two-run single by Borges keyed the rally.

Snyder led the Rams with a pair of hits.

Redshirt-junior pitcher Eli Lam (Elkton, Va./Spotswood/Patrick Henry CC) (2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K, 1 BB) (1-1) earned the win. Alex Bucolo (5.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 10 K, 4 BB) (1-2) took the loss.

The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
