Shepherd Baseball Drops Pair at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (8-14, 3-7 PSAC East) dropped a doubleheader to Shippensburg (16-9, 10-4 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Shippensburg on Friday. The Rams dropped a 4-2 decision in game one and later dropped an 11-9 contest in the nightcap.

Shippensburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one as Carter Hinds led off with a single and later scored when Justin Byler reached on a fielder's choice.

After the Raiders added a pair of runs in the fifth, Shepherd cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth as junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland) reached on an error and scored on a two-run blast off the bat of redshirt-junior outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC).

Shippensburg added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Brady Harbach.

Daggers went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams.

Hinds had a pair of hits for the Raiders.

Jaxon Delena (7.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 13 K, 0 BB) (2-1) gained the win for the Raiders. Redshirt-freshman Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI/James Madison) (6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (1-3) took the loss.

The Raiders plated three runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take a 6-0 advantage in the nightcap.

Shepherd answered back with five runs in the third behind RBI-singles from senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport), junior outfielder Mike Guzzardo (Mullica Hill, N.J./Bish. Eustace Prep/RCSJ Cumberland), junior catcher Brayden Meskill (Bordentown, N.J./Notre Dame/Mercer County CC), senior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook), and Daggers.

Shippensburg added a run in the third and three in the fourth to take a 10-5 advantage. B Herb's two-run single keyed the rally in the third.

The Rams cut the lead to 10-7 in the on a two-run double off the bat of Carter.

Shepherd added a pair of runs in the sixth as Borges reached on a hit-by-pitch and scored on an error. Jamison later reached on a fielder's choice and scored on sacrifice fly by Guzzardo.

The Raiders added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI-single by Hinds and held on for the win.

Borges, Jamison, and Carter each had a pair of hits for the Rams.

Austin Baal and Hinds had three hits each for the Raiders.

Ryan Gleason (5.0 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 2 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) (3-1) earned the win. Conner Barto (1.2 IP, 0H, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB) gained the save (1). Redshirt-junior pitcher Trevor Sharp (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman (1.1 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (1-3) took the loss.

The two teams return to action on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
