Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Rallies Past Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) had a game-high four goals and an assist to lead Shepherd University (3-4, 1-2 PSAC East) to an 11-9 win over Shippensburg (1-6, 0-3 PSAC East) in PSAC East women's lacrosse action at Shippensburg on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) added two goals and a pair of assists. Sophomore attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) and freshman midfielder Aubrey Harrison (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior) each added a pair of goals. 

Sophomore attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) netted a goal, while senior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added an assist to go along with four ground balls, three draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers.

Sara Vosburg had three goals and an assist for the Raiders.         

The game was tied at 5-5 at halftime.

Trailing 9-8 after a goal by Shippensburg's Jamie Carvin with 6:35 left in regulation, Shepherd scored three unanswered goals to grab the win.

Dextradeur scored on a feed from King at the 5:34 mark to tie the game. King put the Rams ahead on an unassisted goal with 4:59 left, and Harrison scored on an assist from Stoner with four seconds left to give the Rams an 11-9 triumph.

Sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded a career-high 11 saves for the Rams. Kayla Vosburg posted 10 saves for the Raiders.

Shippensburg had a 33-26 advantage in shots with Shepherd holding a 21-20 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 24-of-28 in clears, while Shippensburg was 22-of-23. Shippensburg had a 27-19 edge in ground balls. Shepherd forced 22 turnovers and committed 21. Draw controls were even at 12-all.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host # 3/6 East Stroudsburg at Ram Stadium. First draw is slated for 1 p.m.
