SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (10-12, 5-5 PSAC East) swept a doubleheader with Shippensburg (16-11, 10-6 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. The Rams posted a 13-4 victory in game one and added a 4-1 win in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the first inning in game one behind a two-run homer by junior outfielder Mike Guzzardo (Mullica Hill, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep/RCSJ Cumberland) and a solo blast by redshirt-junior outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC).
Shippensburg cut the lead to 3-1 in the second on a solo homer by Austin Baal.
The Rams took a 7-1 lead in the fourth as senior outfielder Idris Carter (Uniondale, N.Y./Roosevelt/Stony Brook) and graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) each hit solo blast and Guzzardo added an RBI-double.
Morgan Wyatt hit a solo homer in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-2.
Shepherd plated six runs in the sixth with a two-run single by freshman catcher Collin Snyder (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) keying the rally.
Andrew Chronister rapped a two-run single for the Raiders in the seventh to complete the scoring.
Guzzardo went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs to lead the Rams. Daggers and Snyder also added a pair of hits.
Freshman pitcher Michael Burnley (Sicklerville, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) (4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) (1-1) gained the win. Redshirt-sophomore Nate Mikulski (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) (3.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) worked the final three innings to pick up the save. J.T. Weaver (3.2 IP, 6 H, ER, 2 BB) (3-2 took the loss.

Junior infielder Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick CC) smacked a two-run single in the fourth to up the Shepherd lead to 4-0.
The Raiders got on the board in the sixth as Mike Heckman led off with a double and later scored on an error.
Senior pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James/Maryland) (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 K, 3 BB) (4-2) picked up the win. Gabe Stotler (5.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 4 K, 1 BB) (3-3) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
