Shepherd Baseball Splits with Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (11-15, 6-8 PSAC East) split a doubleheader with Bloomsburg (10-17, 7-11 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Bloomsburg on Sunday. The Rams posted a 4-1 victory in game one and dropped a 5-1 decision in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the third inning in game one on a solo homer by redshirt junior second baseman Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC).

Bloomsburg tied the game in the bottom of the third on a run-scoring double by Wyatt Metzger.

The Rams scored three runs in the seventh to earn the win. Junior infielder Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick CC) drew a walk and was replaced by sophomore pinch-runner Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood). Miles then reached on a hit-by-pitch and senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) followed with a three-run homer.

Redshirt freshman pitcher Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI/James Madison) (6.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 7 K, 1 BB) (2-3) picked up the win.  Redshirt-junior pitcher Eli Lam (Elkton, Va./Spotswood/Patrick Henry CC) (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K, 0 BB) earned the save (2). Nate Baranski (6.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 9 K, 1 BB) took the loss.

Bloomsburg took a 1-0 lead in the first in the nightcap on an RBI-double by Metzger.

Shepherd tied the game in the fourth as redshirt-junior outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC) doubled and later scored on a ground out by junior shortstop Greg Borges (Odenton, Md./Avalon Day School/Allegany College of Maryland).

The Huskies took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on RBI-singles by Josh Wilson and Jonathan Labarbera.

Bloomsburg added a pair of runs in the sixth on a two-run homer by Metzger.

Will Dean (7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) (3-4) earned the win. Senior pitcher Chris Chaney (Falling Waters, W.Va./Saint James/Maryland) (1.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) (4-3) took the loss.

The two teams return to action on Monday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
