SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (23-26, 13-18 PSAC East) knocked off West Chester in game one with a 4-3 win in 11 innings (30-20, 18-13 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Sara Cree Field on Saturday. The nightcap was called in the top of the fourth inning due to darkness.
Shepherd took a 2-0 in the first inning behind an RBI-single by junior third baseman
Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene) and a run-scoring double from freshman first baseman
Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville).
West Chester scored a run in the fourth as Grace Aguilar walked and was replaced by pinch-runner Kayla Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick later scored on a ground out by Paige Marabell.
The Golden Rams scored two runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 advantage. Madison Melvin had an RBI-triple and later scored on a single by Katelyn Rittenbaugh.
Shepherd tied the game in the seventh as senior outfielder
Olivia Reese (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led off with a single and later scored on a single off the bat of senior second baseman
Caitlin Donnelly (Newark, Del./Padua Academy).
The Rams scored the game-winner in the 11th as junior shortstop
Lexi Clatterbuck (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) was placed on second due to the international tiebreaker rule. She scored the game-winner when graduate student catcher
Alex Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central) drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Reese went 3-for-4 and Moore added two hits to lead a 10-hit attack for the Rams.
Melvin had a pair of hits for the Golden Rams.

Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 9 K, 1 BB) (16-5) picked up the win in relief. Makenzie Edwards (4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 K, 3 BB) (10-7) took the loss.
