SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior midfielder Paige Stoner (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) scored six goals and added an assist to lead Shepherd University (4-5, 2-3 PSAC East) to a 19-15 win over Millersville (3-5, 1-3 PSAC East) in PSAC East women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Wednesday. Additionally, Stoner (209) recorded a game-high 11 draw controls to become the program's career all-time leader in that category. She broke the previous record of 203 set by Erin Phelan (2013-16).
Junior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) added five goals and an assist. Sophomore attacker Rebekah Forney (Walkersville, Md./Mount De Sales) had two goals and an assist, while freshman midfielder Aubrey Harrison (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior) added a pair of goals and an assist.
Junior midfielder Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) tallied a pair of goals, senior attacker Shanna Dextradeur (Middletown, Md./Middletown) contributed a goal and three assists, and sophomore attacker Holly Poe (Sykesville, Md./Century) netted a goal.
Liv Genovese scored three goals and recorded seven draw controls for the Marauders.
Shepherd had a 9-8 lead at halftime as Stoner (3) and King (3) combined for six first-half goals.
The game featured six lead changes and five ties. Shepherd took the lead for good at 16-15 on an unassisted goal by Forney with 5:06 left in the game. The Rams closed the game on a 4-0 run with Stoner (4:09), King (:45), and Paredes (:12) adding unassisted goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) tied a career-high effort with 11 saves for the Rams. Morgan Scott posted 11 saves for the Marauders.
Shepherd had a 37-28 advantage in shots with a 30-26 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 18-of-20 in clears, while Millersville was 18-of-20. Shepherd had a 20-16 advantage in ground balls. Shepherd forced 21 turnovers and committed 16. The Rams held a 21-17 edge in draw controls.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to face #2 West Chester for a 1 p.m. contest.
Notes: Shepherd recorded its first win over Millersville since the Rams posted a 20-16 win in 2012 … the win was only the second in the series for the Rams in 16 meetings ... all six of Stoner's shots resulted in goals ... she was 3-of-3 in free-position attempts ... her six goals and seven points are career-high efforts.
