Snyder’s Blast Lifts Shepherd Baseball to Split with Bloomsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (12-16, 7-9 PSAC East) split a doubleheader with Bloomsburg (11-18, 8-12 PSAC East) in PSAC East baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Monday. The Rams posted a come-from-behind 4-3 victory in game one on a solo blast by freshman catcher Collin Snyder (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) in the bottom of the seventh and dropped a 14-3 decision in the nightcap.

Bloomsburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one on an RBI-single by Wyatt Metzger.

Shepherd tied the game in the fourth on a solo blast to right center off the bat of redshirt-junior outfielder Sam Daggers (Galloway, N.J./Absegami/Rowan Gloucester CC).  

Senior outfielder Corey Jamison (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) smacked a solo homer in the fifth to give the Rams a 2-1 advantage.

Daggers belted a solo shot to left in the seventh to set the stage for Snyder's game-winner.

Daggers went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers to pace the Rams.

Redshirt-junior pitcher Eli Lam (Elkton, Va./Spotswood/Patrick Henry CC) (1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 0 BB) (2-1) picked up the win. Mike Capicioppo (1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (0-1) took the loss.

Bloomsburg scored three runs in the first, two in the second, and four more in the third to take a commanding 9-0 lead in the nightcap.

Graduate student third baseman Connor Dewees (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) lined a three-run homer in the fourth to put the Rams on the board.

The Huskies added two in the sixth on a homer by Metzger and three more in the seventh on a three-run homer by Brady Ebbert.

Ebbert and Josh Wilson each went 3-for-4 to lead Bloomsburg.

Redshirt-junior infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC) went 2-for-3 with a triple to pace the Rams.

Matt Vernieri (3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 6 K, 0 BB) (1-0) gained the win in relief for the Huskies. Graduate student pitcher Tanner Dixon (Frederick, Md./Frederick) (1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (0-1) took the loss

The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Kutztown for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
