Gable Leads Shepherd Women’s Soccer Past Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior forward Lydia Gable (Felton, Pa./Kennard Dale) scored three goals and added an assist to lift Shepherd University (2-0-2, 2-0-0 PSAC East) to a 6-1 win over Shippensburg (0-4-0, 0-2-0PSAC East) in PSAC East women's soccer action at Shippensburg on Wednesday. The Rams scored six goals in a game for the first time since Sept. 6, 2023, when they recorded a 6-2 win over Chowan.
 
Gable opened the scoring on an assist from junior midfielder Josie Beezel (Woodsboro, Md./Linganore) at the 19:12 mark and added another, minutes later on a feed from sophomore midfielder Reagan Ackermann (Myersville, Md./Middletown/UNC Wilmington) to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage.
 
Graduate student forward/midfielder Chloe Stevens (Englewood, Colo./ThunderRidge/Fairleigh Dickinson) scored on an assist from sophomore midfielder Annabelle Wunderlich (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) at the 43:04 mark.
 
Sophomore midfielder Taylor Schuck (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) scored on a pass from Gable at the 44:48 mark to give the Rams a 4-0 lead at the break.
               
Shippensburg opened up the second half scoring on a penalty kick by Olivia Stephen at the 53:16 mark.
 
Shepherd tacked on a pair of goals as freshman midfielder Anaya Lozano (Chesapeake, Va./Atlantic Shores Christian School) scored an unassisted goal at the 78:09 mark and Gable added a goal with four seconds left in the game on a pass from senior midfielder Delaney Bittner (York, Pa./Red Lion Area Senior)  to record a hat trick.
 
Shepherd held a 13-7 advantage in shots with an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Wilt (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) (1 GA, 1 save, 80:42) and sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Highland (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach/Georgian Court) (0 GA, 1 save, 9:18) combined for two saves for the Rams. Kirstin Brown posted five saves (4 GA, 45:00), Hannah Cline (1 GA, 35:48) had one, while Maggie Webb 1 GA, 9:14) did not post a save for the Raiders.
 
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host East Stroudsburg at noon.
