Lek Powell (Carlisle, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) completed 21-of-29 passes for 248 yards and two scores to lead Shepherd (2-1) to a 27-9 win over Clarion (2-2) in football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Powell teamed with senior wide receiver
Barry Hill (Highland Springs, Va./Varina/West Virginia State) on a 35-yard scoring pass with 4:09 left in the first quarter. Freshman kicker
Keith Baker (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) added the extra point.
Adam Scarpino hit a 35-yard field goal with 14:11 left in the second quarter to cut the lead to 7-3.
Shepherd opened the second half scoring when Powell fired an 85-yard scoring strike to junior wide receiver
Cameron Dorner (New Market, Md./Oakdale) with 9:42 left in the third quarter.
Anthony Guercio scored on a one-yard run with 8:02 left in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 14-9 as Clarion's two-point attempt failed.
The Rams got a 30-yard interception return for a score from sophomore defensive back
Miles Greer (Springfield, Va./South County) with 1:05 left in the game to take a 21-9 lead.
Shepherd added its final score when redshirt junior linebacker
Cole Scott (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) picked off a pass and weaved his way 79 yards to the end zone as time expired.
Shepherd had 370 yards of total offense while limiting Clarion to 283 total yards, with just 61 yards coming on the ground.
Guercio completed 20-of-42 passes for 222 yards and was sacked six times.
Graduate student running back
Grant Swinehart (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby/VMI had 15 carries for a game-high 62 yards to pace the Rams. Guercio had 16 carries for 39 yards to lead the Golden Eagles.
Dorner had four catches for 100 yards and senior wide receiver
Jeremiah Taylor (Upper Marlboro, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School/Fairmont State) added six grabs for 39 yards to lead the Shepherd receivers. Trevon Tate had nine catches for 94 yards for the Golden Eagles.

Brodie Carroll (Catharpin, Va./Battlefield) (all solos), redshirt-junior defensive back
Naeem Alexander (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown), and Scott each had six tackles to lead the Shepherd defense. Luke Shaffer had 11 tackles (nine solos) to lead Clarion.
Redshirt senior punter
Ryan Barrick (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) punted seven times for a 48.0 average. He placed a pair of punts inside the 20-yard line and had a long punt of 54 yards.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. game.
