Shepherd Men Down Bloomsburg for Fourth Straight Win


BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Graduate student forward Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) scored 15 points and while senior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added 13 to lead Shepherd University (12-6, 8-3 PSAC)  to a 64-52 win over Bloomsburg (3-15, 2-9 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Bloomsburg on Wednesday. The Rams ran their winning streak to four games.

Paar connected on 7-of-9 field goals with a 1-of-4 effort from the line. He added a game-high six rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots. Poffenberger hit 6-of-11 field goals with a 1-of-3 effort from the line. He added four boards, a steal, and a blocked shot.

Freshman guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) had eight points, while senior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) tossed in seven. Sophomore guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) tied Bloomsburg's Louie Wild with a game-high five assists.

Matt Bengel led Bloomsburg with 17 points. Isiah Sherman added 13 points and Danny Bruce tossed in 10.

Shepherd had a 32-28 lead at halftime as Poffenberger (9) and Parr combined for 16 first-half points.

The Rams opened the second half on a 18-8 run to gain a 14-point lead and take control of the contest.

Shepherd connected on 44.1 percent (26-59) of its field goals with a 21.7 percent (5-23) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 53.8 percent (7-13) of their free throws.

Bloomsburg shot 34.5 percent (19-55) from the floor with a 28 percent (7-25) effort from beyond the arc. The Huskies hit 100 percent (7-7) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 39-29 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed nine.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Kutztown for a 3 p.m. contest.
